Abrogation? Quran 2:106 Investigateislam and many haters claim that the Quran abrogates (cancels & contradicts) itself because of this verse
Quran 2:106 "Whichever (Ayah) we relinquish or cause to be forgotten We replace it with its equal or with that which is greater, did you not know that God is capable of all things?" Response Most think the word Ayah means ‘Verse’ But in actual fact the word ‘Ayah’ means a whole range of things. Arabic speakers know that one word can mean several things
The Word Ayah can mean Miracles, Signs, Examples, and Verses. Let Me prove this using the Quran.
1) Miracles Proof: Quran 17:101 "And We supported Moses with nine profound Ayah’s (miracles)."
2) Signs, Proof: Quran 19:10 "He said, ‘My Lord, give me an ‘Ayah’ (sign).’ He said, ‘Your Ayah is that you will not speak to people for three consecutive nights." 19:10
3) Example, Proof Quran 25:37 "And the folk of Noah, when they disbelieved the messengers, We have drowned them and set an Ayah (example) of them for all people."
4) Verses, Proof Quran 38:29 "This is a book that we have sent down to you that is sacred, perhaps they will reflect on its ‘Ayat’ (verses)."
To Prove that the Quran 2:106 is not referring to the abrogation of ‘verses’ if we read the entire verse it says ‘Cause to be forgotten’, This does not apply to the quran because its impossible for a verse in the quran to be forgotten even if it is abrogated because it is still a part of the Kitab(book)
The Correct meaning of the verse is either Ayah’s from previous scriptures i.e. Thawra, Injeel, Zabour. Alternatively the correct meaning could be Miracles because the verse in surah 2:106 says ‘cause to be forgotten’ because miracles of Jesus, Moses, Noah have somewhat been forgotten, they are only recorded in the Bible and Quran
And Finally The Verse states that 'We replace with its equal or with that which is greater’ this makes sense if the word Ayah means Miracles, because Allah does replace miracles with equally good if not better ones over time. The Quran is living miracles in poetry, the Arabic language, its internal structure, its scientific facts, its word frequencies such as the word day (yawm) occurring 365 times exactly and many other examples. Ayat Al Sayf? (The Verse Of the Sword?) Investigate Islam claims that Quran 9:29 abrogates all peaceful verses in the Quran, but this is false as we have shown in this article, but let me very quickly refute haters who claim 9:29 abrogates. This verse is often called Ayat Al Sayf! The Verse of the Sword!
The verse says
9:29 Fight those who believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, nor hold that forbidden which hath been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger, nor acknowledge the religion of Truth, (even if they are) of the People of the Book, until they pay the Jizya with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued.
The context of Surah 9 proves this verse was dealing with a specific period of Islamic history and infact was in self defence. This verse was revealed for specific reasons. Let Me quote some verses from the SAME CHAPTER which prove the context
Quran 9:13. Will ye not fight people who violated their oaths, plotted to expel the Messenger, and took the aggressive by being the first (to assault) you? Do ye fear them? Nay, it is Allah Whom ye should more justly fear, if ye believe!
Quran 9:25 Assuredly Allah did help you in many battle-fields and on the day of Hunain: Behold! your great numbers elated you, but they availed you naught: the land, for all that it is wide, did constrain you, and ye turned back in retreat.
Note that both these verses are before verse 29 and verse 13 indicated that the Muslims were attacked first and the pagans broke their treaties and verse 25 makes a specific to ‘Hunain’ which is the battle in Islamic history being spoken of in the Surah of the Quran. So Haters who use this chapter to claim all Muslims are commanded to fight all non-belivers are being dishonest |
