'Chimps, Humans 96 Percent the Same, Gene Study Finds'

Response 1

Firstly having DNA simularities between Humans and other Animals is not neccesarily an indication that we all evolved from a common anncestor, it could just as easily indicate that we have a common creator / designer this is why there are many people who belive in evolution but also belive in God. An interesting comparason would be like A BMW and a Porsche Car both have alot of simularities, i.e. suspensions, doors, wheels, but this obviously points to a common designer.

Response 2

Biochemical simularities between humans and animals is neccesary for Humans to have food. As we humans need nutrients and energy to continue living, we would not be able to eat anything if every organsim on earth was fundamentally different biochemically, because we would not be able to digest them and we could not use the amino acids and sugars etc, so biochemical simularities is needed for us to have food to survive

Response 3

Chimp DNA has not been fully sequenced so that a proper comparason can be made, therefore the '96%' simularity is highly subjective and questionale. DNA contains its information in the sequence of four chemical compounds known as nucleotides, abbreviated C,G,A,T. Groups of three of these at a time are ‘read’ by complex translation machinery in the cell to determine the sequence of 20 different types of amino acids to be incorporated into proteins. The human DNA has at least 3,000,000,000 nucleotides in sequence. Chimp DNA has not been anywhere near fully sequenced so that a proper comparison can be made.

The figure of 96% came from a technique called DNA hybridization where small parts of human DNA are split into single strands and allowed to re–form double strands (duplex) with chimp DNA. However, there are various reasons why DNA does or does not hybridize, only one of which is degree of similarity (Sarich et al. 1989. Cladistics 5:3–32)

Even if we assume that human and chimp DNA was even 96% simular, this does not mean we evolved from a common ancestor with chimps. The amount of information in the 3 billion base pairs in the DNA in every human cell is far too complexIf humans were ‘only’ 4% different this still amounts to 120 million base pairs, so the differences are still significant

Conclusion

According to Allah in the Quran, All of the creatures were created from earthly materials and mainly from water and dust. This is why we see similarities between humans and some animals. A literal interpretation of a verse from the Quran is interesting when Allah specifically chose monkeys when He transformed the disbelievers from the Jews into them. Scientists have confirmed that the closest animals, in DNA and characteristics to humans, are the monkeys, Therefore having DNA simularities supports the Ayah in the Quran.

Verses In The Quran Relating To DNA

"O mankind! reverence your Guardian-Lord, who created you from a single person, created, of like nature, His mate, and from them twain scattered (like seeds) countless men and women;- reverence God, through whom ye demand your mutual (rights), and (reverence) the wombs (That bore you): for God ever watches over you. (Quran, 4:1)"

"He initiated you from one person, and decided your path, as well as your final destiny. We thus clarify the revelations for people who understand. (Quran, 6:98)"

"It is He Who created you from a single person, and made his mate of like nature, in order that he might dwell with her (in love). When they are united, she bears a light burden and carries it about (unnoticed). When she grows heavy, they both pray to God their Lord, (saying): "If Thou givest us a goodly child, we vow we shall (ever) be grateful." (Quran, 7:189)"

"He created you (all) from a single person: then created, of like nature, his mate; and he sent down for you eight head of cattle in pairs: He makes you, in the wombs of your mothers, in stages, one after another, in three veils of darkness. such is God, your Lord and Cherisher: to Him belongs (all) dominion. There is no god but He: then how are ye turned away (from your true Centre)? (Quran, 39:6)"

"Say: "Shall I point out to you something much worse than this, (as judged) by the treatment it received from God? those who incurred the curse of God and His wrath, those of whom some He transformed into apes and swine, those who worshipped evil;- these are (many times) worse in rank, and far more astray from the even path!" (Quran, 5:60)"

"When in their insolence they transgressed (all) prohibitions, We said to them: "Be ye apes, despised and rejected." (Quran, 7:166)"

"And well ye knew those amongst you who transgressed in the matter of the Sabbath: We said to them: "Be ye apes, despised and rejected." (Quran, 2:65)"

As these Verses show, Allah created Mankind from a single physical person, i.e., Adam, peace be upon him. This means that our physical bodies have to have similarities between them, since in reality we are all physical brothers and sisters in humanity
