Death of Asma Bint Marwan
Some people on paltalk and youtube claim the Prophet Muhammed ordered the killing of a poetess called Asma Bint Marwan, because she wrote unfavourable poems about the Prophet Muhammed.
This story is mentioned in ‘Kitab At-Tabaqat Al Kabir Volume 1, pages 27 and 28 and also by Ibn 'Adiyy in Al-Kamel, Volume 6 page 145
Response
This story was passed through different people, who reported it. The chain of these reports are called an isnad in Arabic. In order for a story or hadith to be considered authentic, it has to have a strong reliable chain of narration, so we can be sure its original. If there is a narrator who is not verified and considered weak, the story is considered fabricated. Ibn Adiyy says in his book that the chain of reporters for this story were Ja'far Ibn Ahmad Ibn Muhammad Ibn As-Sabah on authority of Muhammad Ibn Ibrahim Ash-Shami on authority of Muhammad Ibn Al-Hajjaj on authority of Mujalid on authority of Ash-Shu'abi on authority of Ibn 'Abbas. The author Ibn Adiyy said that
…this isnad (chain of reporters) is not narrated on authority of Mujalid but by Muhammad Ibn Al-Hajjaj and they all (other reporters in the chain) accuse Muhammad Ibn Al-Hajjaj of forging it
The prophet never commanded the killing of Asma Bint Marwan. This was a fake story made up by haters of Islam. The isnad (chain of reporters) of the story is unreliable because one of its reporters is known for fabricating hadîth
